Summary of "The Lost Hero"
Jason wakes up on a bus with all of his memories gone when the story begins. He is sitting next to a girl named Piper, who says she is his girlfriend, and near them sits a boy named Leo, who claims to be his best friend. Supervising the bus is Coach Hedge. Soon after they realize that Jason doesn't remember anything, they arrive at the Grand Canyon. There, they are attacked by storm spirits, which Jason called venti , and a girl named Annabeth arrives on a chariot, searching for someone named Percy. Coach Hedge is taken by the venti. Annabeth then takes them to Camp Half Blood-- a camp for demigods. Leo is immediately claimed by his godly parent, Hephaestus. Coach Hedge is revealed to have been a satyr. Jason recognizes the Greek gods, but he knows of them in their Roman forms. As Jason is shown around camp, he finds a picture of Thalia Grace, a hunter of Artemis and daughter of Zeus, in the Zeus cabin, and he recognizes her as his sister. Piper is later claimed by Aphrodite. In a dream, she discovers that her father has been kidnapped, and that she must take a risk if she were to attempt rescuing him. Leo discovers that the Hephaestus cabin had built a metal dragon, and he is motivated to find and restore it, though he had been warned that it would be dangerous to do so. Leo has the rare ability to resist fire that some children of Hephaestus inherited, and it aided him in finding and fixing the dragon. He named it Festus.
Soon, the director of the camp, Chiron, assigns the trio a mission to defeat giants who worked for Gaea, Mother Earth, who was trying to overthrow the gods and recreate the world. They encounter many monsters, such as a group of Cyclopes, who attempt to kill them. They also come across Medea, the wife of the original Jason, who also tries to kill them. They find Coach Hedge in King Midas's mansion. Jason finds Thalia eventually, who is surprised to see that he is alive, and told him that he had been stolen by Hera when he was two years old. However, they are soon separated. Both Piper and Leo meet their godly parents, and although at first they both are upset with their parents for ignoring them all their lives, they each learn something from them. After Piper meets Aphrodite in a dream, the group wakes up in California.
In California, they find the giant Enceladus. The group defeats the giant and rescues Piper's dad. After explaining what had happened to him and getting him home, she gave him a vial which Aphrodite had given her, which contained a pink liquid that would erase his memories. Coach Hedge was to take care of Piper's dad until he recovered completely. The group then returns to Camp Half Blood.
After they arrived, Piper became the leader of the Aphrodite cabin. Leo also becomes the senior counselor of the Hephaestus cabin. He shows the Hephaestus cabin Bunker Nine, a hidden facility with many diagrams for extraordinary inventions. He planned to create a ship from one of the diagrams and name it the Argo II, after the original Jason's ship, and use Festus's head as the ship's figurehead. Hera visits Jason in her Roman form, Juno, who does not directly return his memories to him, but tells him that they will come to him in time. They are later told by Chiron about the Roman camp on the West coast. They find out that the missing Percy Jackson is in the Roman camp, and they begin planning to find him.
